VII. Fiordo di Furore – The Stone Bridge, the Giro Peloton and the Legend of the Devil
Fiordo di Furore – a small town hidden between the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast. According to legend, it was created in a moment of the devil’s fury, when, mistreated by the locals, he struck the ground with his hoof, carving a deep ravine.
While working on the next piece from my Amalfi series, during the Giro d’Italia, I thought: the peloton crossing this spectacular Ponte di Furore bridge would make a perfect scene! But how to bring the devil into the artwork? Then I remembered Didi Senft – the legendary “Tour de France devil”, a fan in a devil costume who has cheered cyclists on many stages of the Tour and Giro. Suddenly, all the pieces came together – and graphic number VII was born.
The Giro d'Italia last crossed the Ponte di Furore during Stage 6 of the 2023 edition.
